SAME SIX QUESTIONS: WRECKLESS ERIC AND AMY RIGBY
Wreckless Eric and Amy Rigby have been touring together for two years, as what they describe as 'a two piece rock 'n' roll group with vocal harmonies'. But both have had long and varied careers before this project.

Wreckless Eric has tried his hand in more genres than we'd care to mention since his 1977 debut album, 'Whole Wide World'. His last album, 'Bungalow Hi', released in 2004, was described by Andrew Weatherall as sounding 'like Bo Diddley trying to outdo Aphex Twin'.

Amy Rigby was a member of The Shams, before going solo in 1996 and has since released five solo album covering pop, country, folk-rolk, Merseybeat, psychedelia and beach music.

Their first album together, 'Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby', will be released by Stiff Records on 15 Sep. They both answered our Same Six Questions.

Q1 How did you start out making music?
Wreckless Eric: With great difficulty! I was eight or nine years old when the first Beatles record came out and that was really the start of it. I had a homemade guitar strung with fuse wire and fishing twine to begin with, then from the age of fourteen a succession of crappy electric guitars and dangerous yet under-powered amplifiers.
Amy Rigby: With one of my brothers and some friends in an apartment in New York City in the late 70s/early 80s. I heard records and saw lots of bands and musicians back then - it all seemed so exciting that I had to do it myself.

Q2 What inspired your latest single/album?
WE: Amy Rigby! Everything and nothing really - I said to Amy from the start that we should do all the things we do and not worry about it too much, just do it.
AR: Driving to and playing gigs with Wreckless Eric, and singing old country and pop songs together on the sofa.

Q3 What process do you go through in creating a track?
WE: Find a beat or a bass line, strum a few chords, mess about on the organ while Amy doodles on the piano, loop something, write a few lyrics, create chaos and slowly organise it...
AR: Hear something interesting or inspiring, fool around on guitar or keyboard, come up with a melody and lyrics, try to keep it going.

Q4 Which artists influence your work?
WE: All of them and none of them.
AR: Whatever music, book or film I'm in love with at the time.

Q5 What would you say to someone experiencing your music for the first time?
WE: I don't think I'd say anything to them, just let them listen. Back in the 70s, radio presenters, DJs, or 'disc jockeys', as they were called, were fond of asking the question: 'How would you describe your music?' All they had to do was play the record.
AR: I hope you're feeling what I'm feeling.

Q6 What are your ambitions for your latest single/album, and for the future?
WE: Earn a living, keep on touring, make another record, survive, enjoy life...
AR: To tour all over and play for people, to do Eric proud, to keep working and learning new things, to never stop enjoying it.

LOST BEATLES TAPE DISCOVERED IN ATTIC
A forgotten Beatles recording made in 1964 has been discovered in a Liverpool attic. The 30 minute reel-to-reel tape was found by a man as he sorted through his father's possessions after his death and features eleven original songs and cover versions. Amongst the songs is a cover of 'Don't Put Me Down Like This' by American soul singer Derek Martin, thought to be the only Beatles recording of the songs, and a recording of Paul McCartney and John Lennon breaking into fits of laughter as they fail to play the song 'I'll Follow The Sun' correctly after three attempts.

The tape is expected to raise up to £12,000 when it is auctioned on 5 Aug by Berwick-based Cameo Auctioneers. The company's John King told The Liverpool Echo: "It is a real time capsule, an audio snapshot of The Beatles in their youth when they were having fun, laughing, giggling and buzzing off each other. When I first listened to this tape, it really made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. It sent a shiver down my spine".

In other Beatles news, a planned DVD release of their long-deleted film, 'Let It Be', has been cancelled. The film documents the recording of the album of the same name and tensions within the band at the time. It was released in cinemas in the 70s and on VHS in the 80s, but has been unavailable for over 20 years. A source told The Daily Express: "There has been talk of 'Let It Be' finally being released but now there has been a change of heart. The Beatles are still a massive global brand and it's felt it won't be helped if the public sees the darker side of the story. Neither Paul nor Ringo would feel comfortable publicising a film showing The Beatles getting on each other's nerves".

WINEHOUSE "GUTTED" BY BOND SNUB
Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson are "gutted" not to have been chosen to perform the theme for new James Bond film, 'Quantum Of Solace', the producer has said. He said: "It's really disappointing, of course it is. But at the time Amy was going through some shit, and now she's doing great, so who cares if we missed the Bond boat. It's fantastic to see her back on track again. We're both gutted we missed out on 007, but there will be other great opportunities for us".

--------------------------------------------------

OBAMA NOT AMUSED BY LUDACRIS TRACK
US Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama is not amused by a new Ludacris track, which, er, criticises the Republican Party, despite recently telling Rolling Stone that he is a fan, and the track's chorus of "The world is ready for change because Obama is here".

In 'Politics As Usual', the rapper suggests that "McCain don't belong in any chair unless he's paralyzed/Yeah, I said it cause Bush is mentally handicapped ... Hillary hated on you, so that bitch is irrelevant".

Obama's spokesman issued a statement saying: "As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism and degrading images that he doesn't want his daughters or any children exposed to. This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual, he should be ashamed of these lyrics".

Women's action group WomenCount is also demanding an apology from the rapper for his comment on Hillary Clinton. In a statement, the group said: "This is not an issue of being PC. This is about beginning the grinding and painful process of rooting out this kind of hate language and behaviour whenever and wherever it exists. The Democratic leadership have pledged to unhinge our nation from gender-bias, hate-language and misogyny and we are taking them at their word".

BURIAL FAVOURITE FOR MERCURY
Burial's second album 'Untrue' has slipped ahead as the favourite to win this year's Mercury Music Prize, according to bookmakers William Hill. That can't be right, though, because that album's rubbish. Also, as Burial is an anonymous artist (he claims that not even his close friends and family know he makes music), who would collect the prize? Maybe this is a cunning ruse to keep the cash.

Anyway, a spokesman for William Hill told the BBC: "The two people we've seen real money for is Radiohead at 9/2 but Burial is very much the favourite at the moment at 3/1".

WYCLEF SUED BY JEWELLERY COMPANY
Jeweller of choice amongst rappers, Jacob & Co, is suing Wyclef Jean, claiming he owes the company hundreds of thousands of dollars for watches and jewellery. In court papers filed on Tuesday, the company say that Jean bought several items between March 2002 and January 2006 for $765,100 and that he still owes them $319,680, despite "repeated demands for payment.

The company's founder, Jacob Arabov, aka Jacob The Jeweller, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for lying to investigators about his knowledge of a drugs ring.

OASIS UPLOAD NEW SINGLE CLIP
A snippet of Oasis' new single, 'The Shock Of The Lightning', can be heard on a new video uploaded to YouTube. The clip comes after a brief compilation of older singles in a trailer for new album, 'Dig Out Your Soul'. The single is due for release on 29 Sep.

BLACK KIDS HIT BY EARTHQUAKE
Black Kids found themselves caught up in an earthquake in LA on Tuesday while recording a Yahoo! Session. Only one of them noticed, though, despite it registering 5.8 on the Richter scale and lasting around 45 seconds.

The band said: "We were in the middle of recording a session when the quake occurred. None of us, except Kevin, felt it. I saw the photographer make a startled face, and thought, 'Lady, it's a good tune, but REALLY'. I was embarrassed by my smugness when we were told that there was an earthquake".

JAY-Z CELEBRATES EUROPEAN TOUR
Jay-Z has called his recent European tour, including his appearance at Glastonbury, "the best run I ever had in my life".

He told Rolling Stone: "The statement they made before I got onstage [at Glastonbury] was 'come out and if you're brilliant, you're brilliant and if you're crap, you're crap'. And I came up and I delivered on it. And as the far as the rest of Europe, I'm being very honest, I really had the best run I ever had in my life".

PERRY BRINGS FORWARD SINGLE RELEASE
US pop sensation Katy Perry, who has been sitting at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks now with 'I Kissed A Girl', has pushed the UK release of the single forward due to a couple of cover versions that have been released. The official single was released on Wednesday, after versions of the song by Nicki Bliss and Barnicle began to climb the iTunes charts, quickly trumping them and jumping to the top of said chart by Thursday.

HMV's E-commerce Director Gideon Lask is leaving the retailer to take on a Senior VP Business Development role at Universal Music UK, or at least that's what Billboard are saying. IS DENISE ABOUT TO QUIT CAPITAL BREAKFAST?
Rumour from radio land. Word has it Denise Van Outen may quit the Capital Radio breakfast show, which she has co-hosted with Johnny Vaughan since earlier this year in a multi-million pound deal that brought the two presenters back together for the first time since their days on the 'Big Breakfast'. She was signed to a year long contract, but according to Broadcast magazine she told producers six weeks ago she's struggling with the early mornings. Whether the recent disappointing RAJAR listening figures for the show will influence her decision to stay or go remains to be seen. A spokesman for Capital owners GCap said Van Outen had not quit, but admitted that her contract was "under discussion".

UK BANDS IN OLYMPIC CONTROVERSY
Two UK bands have fallen foul of Chinese authorities in the run up to the Beijing Olympics.

First up, London band Conil were surprised when they were contacted by the powers that be in China about their new single 'Dog Meat Stew'. Apparently, dog meat has been banned from the menus of all Olympic restaurants (does that mean McDonalds?) and the email was keen to point out that "this was no longer a practice that China endorses". Matt Hare, label manager at Great Hare Records said: "We couldn't believe that our press release had reached the People's Republic Of China. Least of all that it has offended them. Needless to say we don't condone eating dog either".

Next to stir up trouble were The Kooks, or at least one of their song titles. Rowers Ben Rhodes and Stevie Morrison, who have named their boat after a Kooks song, have been told that 'Jackie Big Tits' is not an appropriate name to use at the championships. The pair have now renamed the boat 'Little Miss Pipedream', the name of a song by The Wombats.

BOURNEMOUTH DANCE RELIGION PROTESTED
As we reported last week, Bournemouth club night Frenzy has announced that it is now a religion, in order to get around new flyering rules in the town. However, this new sect, which asks devotees to pay their council taxes and "rave safely" has offended another local church, the Blessed Evangelists.

The group plan to protest outside the Church Of Frenzy's first prayer meeting, which is due to take place tonight at the Dawn Till Dusk club in Bournemouth. A statement on the Blessed Evangelists website says: "The Blessed Evangelists are currently planning on demonstrating at the Bournemouth nightclub Frenzy ... as a result of the disrespectful actions currently being reported on in the media. ... We hope to have as many members as possible in attendance so please put the date in your diary as we must show our disapproval at this outrageous publicity stunt".

DARKNESS MAN GIVES UP SPACE RIDE
Former frontman of The Darkness, Justin Hawkins has been forced to give up his seat on Richard Branson's first space flight next year. According to The Star: "The howling beaver had paid £125,000, but he's now so short of cash he'd only be able to afford a one-way fare".

ADAMS RESPONDS TO LOVE
Ryan Adams has responded to Courtney Love's recent accusations that he ran up hundreds of thousands of dollars on her credit cards to fund the recording of his 'Rock N Roll' album. Oh, and he's posted his response, you guessed it, on his blog.

He writes: "I've realised and accepted that if people decide to dislike me, they're going to find reasons to justify disliking me. There's nothing I can do about that. That said, it still does pain me to be accused of fictional crimes against innocents or to be implicated in romantic gossip involving the possibly reality-challenged - however unreliable the source or outlandish the accusations. In the end, however, I know that I have never done or even meant anyone any harm. Anyway, the lives of public figures are so much more boring than anyone can imagine. Honestly".
