CMU Social is a monthly music industry night promoted by UnLimited Media, publishers of the UK music business' biggest and most popular daily news service, CMU Daily, and Leyline Promotions, the brains behind leading London nights like Twisted Licks, Kill All Hippies, Remix Night and the Insomniacs Ball.

Taking place in Venue 2 at 229 next to Great Portland Street tube station, the CMU Social will bring together key players from across the music business and music media who will have the opportunity to meet and network, and to take in sets from three artists rated by the CMU team who have new album releases upcoming.

The night is free to CMU Daily readers, with a limited number of tickets also available to the public for a fiver.

The ethos

The CMU Social has been established to provide a regular social event for the CMU Daily readership, and to provide a platform where artists the CMU team most rate can showcase their music and upcoming releases to an influential audience.

The Deal

For bands, playing at the CMU Social is a brilliant marketing opportunity.

We provide the venue, the stage and backline, some drinks, and an audience of key industry and media people, journalists, reviewers and opinion formers. We also promote the performance and participating artists' upcoming releases to our audience of 13,000 key music people via the CMU Daily. You have the opportunity to showcase your music to this audience, playing a 20-30 minute set that showcases your work and upcoming releases.

In many ways the CMU Social provides bands and their labels with a ready made album launch party – a genuine opportunity to build the buzz around a release.

The marketing package

Playing at the CMU Social is a contra-deal arrangement, bands are not paid a performance fee but receive a marketing package worth well over £1500, including:

  • Opportunity to play in front of 150 plus music opinion formers.
  • Daily promotion in CMU Daily for three weeks leading up to the night.
  • Inclusion in and promotion via Leyline's weekly e-newsletter to 30,000 opted in music fans.
  • Billing on home page of the CMU website for three weeks leading up the night.
  • Promotion on CMU Social e-card, sent to 13,000 music opinion formers.
  • Promotion on CMU Social postcard, 5000 distributed across central London.
  • Band page on CMU Music Network website to promote release, up coming tour dates and any other activity, before and after release.
  • Interview and promotion in monthly CMU Social podcast, distributed via CMU Music Network website.
  • Promotion in CMU Social PR activity, hitting all key London and music media.
  • All bands will also have a free guest list of ten guests, plus the option to display and distribute promotional material on the night.
