The Clik Clik

The Clik Clik MySpace - more SSQ answers

The Clik Clik's blend of self-produced pop, electro, indie and hip hop turned a lot of heads when they released their debut single 'My Dunks' last December. Over the first few months of 2008, they've built up a strong reputation as a live band, which has secured them slots on the upcoming Wonky Pop and Skins Live tours, following their recent UK tour in support of Hadouken!

With their second single, 'Did You Wrong' out on 2 Jun, we thought it was about time they answered the Qs.

Q1 How did you start out making music?
The band started as a bit of a side project for all of us; we all played in different bands and wanted to try something a bit different. It started off with a much more 'rappy' influence, then we started blending that with pop and electro to find our current sound.

Q2 What inspired your latest single?
Our next single 'Did You Wrong' is all about making an apology, only to be forgiven too quickly. It's about telling your best mate to stand up for themselves.

Q3 What process do you go through in creating a track?
Normally we start with a beat and then we'll start singing a melody with words over the top. We start it more computer based and then work out how it's gonna work with live instruments. We find it really important to record all of our ideas so it's easy to come back to that original sound.

Q4 Which artists influence your work?
We have very mixed influences, ranging from electro to jazz, rock to pop and some weird ones too. We like The Police, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Justice, Dusty Springfield, Elvis Costello, Jackson Five, The Beach Boys, MGMT... just to name a few.

Q5 What would you say to someone experiencing your music for the first time?
Don't be afraid to dance as much as humanly possible and when you've stopped listening play it to everybody you know... okay?

Q6 What are your ambitions for your latest single, and for the future?
It would be awesome to have our video played on as many channels as we can, as we've already had some great radio play. We're not so much going for a huge release as it's going to be on limited edition vinyl, as long as lots of people hear it that's all that matters! As for the rest of the year we have lots of festivals booked so just keep watching this space!
